The $4.6M new concrete reservoir provides drinking water for Mapua, improved earthquake resilience and a higher storage capacity to allow for residential and business growth in the area. It is designed to hold 2,500,000 litres of water.
The constrained and steep site adjacent to the existing timber reservoir made construction complex. Risks included limited working room, large overhanging trees, and the impact of construction on the existing supply.
