Client: Tasman District Council
Dates: 2021 – ongoing
The Motueka River floods often, putting community safety and assets at risk. The existing flood protection stopbanks are currently being upgraded to improve flood resilience to provide protection to homes, businesses, productive land and infrastructure in the Motueka and Riwaka townships.
We were part of Council’s delivery team in all upfront planning, land access agreements, site scoping, budgeting, external funder reporting, overall cost forecasting, and tracking. He has also acted as Principal’s Advisor for programme delivery.
We also led initial funding applications and advised Council on a long-term strategic plan to safeguard material sources – for future stopbank material, emergency use, and to open the tender process to all appropriate earthworks contractors rather than only those who owned the material.
Stakeholder management has been critical on this programme of works. 61 different landowners and occupiers were involved, which necessitated extensive liaison to gain access and work around the seasonal activities of husbandry farming and horticulture.
