This was a $27m highly complex flood protection project to upgrade the culvert under Main Road Stoke, Nelson. This segment of the creek was severely under-capacity, with open and buried culverts and pipes designed to handle a 1 in 5-year flood event. The upgrade has futureproofed the area to cater for a 1 in 100-year flood event.
Delivered under challenging conditions, it involved construction in a constrained site, major excavation works, working around tidal flows, extensive temporary works, contaminated ground, major flood events during construction, multiple stakeholders, and working adjacent to 24/7 operating businesses.
We provided procurement strategy, led the ECI process, and were Technical Advisors during a multi-year construction period.
